Indoor Cycling Class at its BEST at Kennedy Club Fitness!

Here’s what you need to know for your first class!

If you’ve been wondering if indoor cycling (or Spinning) is for you, we welcome you to try a class.  Here are some tips to guarantee you’ll have a great ‘ride’.

 

  • Suit up. The body will definitely work up a sweat, so throw on moisture-wicking clothes to keep cool and dry. As for the feet, normal athletic kicks will work fine in most cases.  If you find Cycling is for you, invest in a pair of clip-in cycling shoes.
  • Reserve your seat in advance.  Go to the reservation app or call the front desk to make sure there’s a seat just for you.
  • Arrive a few minutes early to class.  Let the instructor know you are new to the class format.  Our KCF-certified instructors will help with your seat adjustments and cues offered throughout the class.

 

  • Seat adjustment general rule of thumb is to adjust the seat to be even with your hip. As for the handlebars, position them so the neck and back doesn’t strain.
  • Know the numbers. Some instructors call out numbers to indicate how far you should be rising out of your seat. Roughly, position one is sitting in the seat, position two is a slight hover over the saddle, and position three is a more dramatic hinge forward.
  • Insist on resistance. There are no real gears to change, but there will be a resistance knob or computer. This will control how hard the muscles need to work to increase RPM (that’s bike talk for revolutions per minute). Remember—you are in control of the resistance but make sure there is enough when it’s time to get off your saddle.
  • Towel off and hydrate:  Keep a towel draped over the handlebars for easy access and keep hydrated throughout the class.
  • Choose your class.  There are classes that are 45, 50 or 60 min. long.  Start with the shorter classes, pace yourself and build your endurance.
  • Take time to stretch with the Instructor after class.  You may be using muscles you haven’t used like this in a long time.
  • 3 times is a charm!  There is a learning curve, if not for your mind, for your body.  Give it some time to adapt to what you are asking it to do and you will be hooked on Cycling!
